Richard Sturgeon, M.D. practiced general internal medicine in Minneapolis for 25 years. He led physicians in reorganizing their business practices to meet the changing needs of the marketplace and merged 15 physicians in Minneapolis into a large group practice. He was one of the initial creators and Board Chair of Select Care, one of the first preferred provider organizations in Minnesota.

He now serves as Interim President of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, part of Allina Hospitals & Clinics. Allina is an integrated health care system comprised of doctors, hospitals, and health plans serving communities throughout Minnesota, western Wisconsin and eastern North and South Dakota. Abbott Northwestern Hospital is the largest private, not-for-profit hospital in the Twin Cities.
